Casa Romantica Cultural Center and Gardens, a non-profit 501(c) 3 organization and premiere southern California cultural center, invites the community to its annual Mary Colby Tea in remembrance of historic businesswoman Mary Elizabeth Colby and to support the Casa’s educational and cultural programming.
Casa Romantica hosts Mary Colby Tea each year in honor of long-time San Clemente resident and business owner Mary Colby (1914- 2008). This traditional High Tea preserves an annual gathering started by Colby during her time as owner of Mary Colby Antiques in San Clemente. In 1944, Colby became a buyer for J. W. Robinson & Co. As head of three departments, Mary made yearly trips to Europe to buy lamps, gifts, and mirrors and acquired acumen in retailing. She was the first American woman buyer in Europe after World War II.
