Why not Fashion Travel?
Travel for me is not just getting away from the norm, relaxation or entertainment. It is more than that. It is a source of constant inspiration and knowledge that I can take with me and use it to enrich my personal or professional life back home. I love coming back from a trip with loads of ideas inspired by the places I visit in and start planning my next move while I’m still in jet lag mode (since I’m up at 2:00AM I might as well do something productive, right?) Also, travel gives me a chance to get those picture perfect frames in my mind, you know, the happy places that you think of when you’re overworked or in a rut and your brain needs an escape image, and honestly, you can’t put a price on those images.

Lately, fashion is been driving my travels. Last year, in March, I had this crazy wish that I would go see the Grace Kelly Style Icon exhibit at the Victoria & Albert Museum in London. By the time I traveled to London in September, my trip was studded with fashion destinations including visits to the Fashion & Textile Museum of London, Central St. Martins fashion college, and LONDON FASHION WEEK. The latter was, of course, the highlight of my trip not only because I was within inches from the world’s most uncontested fashion icon, John Galliano, but because it was such an inspiring experience.
The real inspiration came from a candid chat I had during the days spent at LONDON FASHION WEEK with the Founder of the FASHION FRINGE foundation Colin McDowell, an internationally acclaimed fashion journalist who is been supporting emerging designers in London for the past 8 years. Over these 8 years, fashion icons such as Donatella Versace, Vivienne Westwood and John Galliano chaired FASHION FRINGE and dedicated their efforts in promoting London’s emerging talent into mainstream through design competition, further education and exposure opportunities.

It was this behind the scene experience and my conversation with Colin McDowell that inspired most of the vision behind the OC Fashion Association as I was immediately struck with the realization that Orange County is hurting its economy and prestige by not fostering the new talent coming out of its own amazing design schools. Without a support platform and devoid of exposure opportunities, any talented designers would have no reason to stay in OC. Instead, they will take their portfolios and flee to the high lands of the fashion meccas, in most cases Los Angeles or New York. So instead of taking up real estate and create jobs right here in Orange County, most young designers will simply leave the OC to fulfill their sartorial aspirations elsewhere. Today, the OC Fashion Association helps create that support platform on which future generations of Orange County designers could stand tall and show the world their potential and talent, and at the same time helping to boost the local economy by offering many opportunities for exposure, promotion, education and by bringing a spotlight on OC borned-fashion.

Thus, we invite you to join us in our efforts to support emerging Orange County designers by attending our upcoming events. First on the agenda, we have the TONI & GUY OC FASHION WEEK on November 18th, 2011 an Avant-Garde Exhibit  hosted by TONI & GUY Academy and presented by HAUTEOC. tTis rare scene will unveil the fantastic concept and the work of avant-garde new local designers.  Live photo studios and design exhibits will be featured throughout and you will experience the excitement of fashion-forward creativity coming together live as if resurrecting from the pages of your favorite fashion magazines.
Then, next on the agenda, we present the OC FASHION WEEK November 16-20th, 2011. Seminars, runway shows, VIP cocktail hours and after-parties will bring the OC fashion community together. This time we will be showcasing Designer collections, Swimwear and Kids wear from OC local and guests designers.

Since my trip to London last year, for me Fashion and Travel are no longer in dichotomy. In trying to decide which of the two I love the most, I came to the realization that they could be fused into one concept. Why not travel For Style as well as In Style?
